Cruz Announces Decision (Video)

(DCWatchdog.com) – In a new boost to Donald Trump’s prospects for reclaiming the White House in 2024, he has now been endorsed even by US Senator Ted Cruz who famously refused to do so for the then-future president of the United States during the 2016 Republican convention.

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, who was himself a presidential candidate in 2016, has officially endorsed Donald Trump for president, declaring late Tuesday that the “race is over” and emphasizing the necessity for unity behind Trump’s campaign to reclaim the presidency.

In a notable shift from his previous stance, Senator Cruz, who conspicuously abstained from endorsing Trump during the 2016 Republican National Convention, cited Trump’s overwhelming success in the Iowa caucuses this Monday.

“At this point, I believe this race is over. So I am proud to endorse Donald Trump for president of the United States,” Senator Cruz stated during an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News, as cited by The Washington Times.

This endorsement is part of a broader trend within the Senate Republican caucus, with over half of its members now backing Trump as he steadily advances towards his third consecutive nomination as the Republican presidential candidate, The Times points out.

This wave of endorsements for Trump includes both Republican senators from Florida, Rick Scott and Marco Rubio, despite the fact that Florida’s governor, Ron DeSantis, is also a contender in the presidential primary.

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has observed that the campaign is increasingly becoming a contest primarily between two candidates.

Haley is aiming for a surprising victory in New Hampshire’s upcoming Tuesday primary, although DeSantis is still actively competing and intends to secure more delegates.

Senator Cruz’s current endorsement marks a significant departure from his approach during Trump’s initial presidential run in 2016.

At that time, he withheld his endorsement during the party’s convention in Cleveland, which led to a negative reaction from the delegates present. However, he later endorsed Trump during that election cycle.

The report stresses that this time, Senator Cruz is demonstrating less reluctance.

“I look forward to supporting [Mr. Trump] enthusiastically because I think it’s time for the Republican Party to unite, for us to come together. We’ve got to beat Joe Biden,” he said.
