This alarming defect might trap rear-seat passengers, especially vulnerable individuals.

The Dearborn, Michigan-based company is recalling 197,432 vehicles from model years 2021 to 2025.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) highlights the flaw in the electronic door latches, which may remain locked after the driver exits.

The main issue occurs when a low battery charge prevents these latches from unlocking. If power fails, passengers might use the interior handle to manually unlock doors.

Otherwise, a simple software update can prevent such risks.

Ford expected to send notification letters by June 23. Owners should anticipate a full software update by late September.

Dealers will directly address the affected vehicles as Ford aims to contact every owner by September 22.

“Ford has committed to contacting every affected owner by September 22, is not issuing a ‘do not drive’ warning, and urges customers to call 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA hotline for assistance,” Ground News reports.

The recall, numbered 25S65, sheds a spotlight on potential electrical malfunctions in Ford’s innovative vehicles.

Although no ‘do not drive’ warning accompanies this recall, the oversight is a sobering reminder of technology’s unpredictability.

For additional assistance, affected customers should call 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

Ford Motor Company’s willingness to address such issues promptly demonstrates a continued commitment to customer safety.

With competition intensifying among automakers, it’s imperative for Ford to swiftly resolve these safety concerns.

They must ensure their innovative solutions do not come at the expense of passenger safety.
