In a great achievement for the Trump administration, it has transformed immigration enforcement in America under a new, assertive ICE regime, seeing detentions soar across 38 states by 200%.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity has ramped up significantly, driven by President Trump and his top immigration adviser Stephen Miller’s push to bolster enforcement.

The nation is witnessing more than double the arrests compared to previous years, a testament to the administration’s hardline stance.

These increases are observed across the country, particularly in states like Texas and Florida with large immigrant populations.

The New York Times reported that ICE’s average daily arrest rate has jumped to 666, a stark increase from less than 300 in 2024.

Such aggressive tactics have not gone unnoticed by both supporters and critics alike.

“Immigration arrests have increased nationwide and more than doubled in 38 states in the months since President Trump took office, new data shows,” stated Stephen Miller.

Despite claims of targeting criminals, ICE has increasingly arrested individuals without criminal records.

The Guardian outlined that there was an 807% rise in arrests of immigrants with no criminal history.

This reality stands in opposition to the administration’s stated objectives of making communities safer.

A meeting in late May resulted in directives for ICE to increase its arrest numbers, aiming for 3,000 per day—a goal not yet reached but aggressively pursued.

Critics argue this approach redirects focus from true criminal threats, with Republican members of Congress voicing concerns that, “Every minute that we spend pursuing an individual with a clean record is a minute less that we dedicate to apprehending terrorists or cartel operatives.”

Texas leads the charge with over 20,000 arrests since January, closely followed by Florida and Puerto Rico with over 11,000.

States supporting Trump’s immigration policies, particularly in the South and West, have seen marked increases.

The Deportation Data Project at UC Berkeley retrieved this information through the Freedom of Information Act, highlighting that these figures are based on verified data sources.

The administration’s stricter approach has sparked protests nationwide, including violent clashes, notably in Los Angeles.
