(DCWatchdog.com) – As the illegal immigrant invasion continues unabated thanks to the Democrat Party, a survey has named the worst mayor of a “sanctuary city,” the leftist-run cities viciously defying America’s immigration legislation.
A survey by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI) that focused on mayors of the nation’s underperforming sanctuary cities has placed Chicago’s Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson at the forefront of the ten least effective mayors, Breitbart News reports.
This comprehensive evaluation assessed how these city leaders manage funding for migrants, their collaboration with federal law enforcement, and their enforcement of immigration laws, among other criteria.
IRLI’s assessment ranked Chicago as the third-worst sanctuary city in 2022.
“Under Johnson’s leadership, the city’s problems with illegal immigration have escalated, resulting in worsening crime, overcrowding, and chaos for city residents,” the organization stated.
Dale Wilcox, IRLI’s executive director and general counsel, elaborated on the influence of sanctuary policies.
“Sanctuary policies are some of the biggest magnets drawing illegal aliens into this country, and sanctuary mayors are the loudest advocates of those policies,” he said.
“While they claim to be more compassionate than their critics, the policies of these mayors are actually causing unacceptable levels of overcrowding, criminal activity and death in their communities,” Wilcox added.
Tom Homan, a senior fellow at IRLI and former acting director of ICE, critiqued the interference of sanctuary city policies with law enforcement.
“The job of immigration enforcement personnel is to remove dangerous aliens and keep communities safe. Sanctuary mayors and their policies prevent ICE from doing their job, and innocent people are dying as a result. The lawlessness of sanctuary cities and their mayors is destroying some of our greatest cities, and that has to stop,” he commented.
Mayor Johnson has implemented numerous policies that favor illegal immigrants, including advocating for their voting rights, allocating millions in taxpayer funds to create shelters for them, redirecting resources from city residents to support these migrants, and facing increasing disapproval from Chicagoans for his focus on migrant welfare.
Johnson has also tried to deflect responsibility for the city’s migrant crisis to Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who has relocated approximately 37,000 illegal immigrants to Chicago since 2022.
Despite criticizing Governor Abbott, Johnson remains committed to his sanctuary city policies.
“Despite his attacks on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Johnson has continued full steam ahead with his sanctuary policies. Johnson is set to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in taxpayer money caring for illegal aliens even as many of his own citizens languish in poverty,” the report noted.
