(DCWatchdog.com) – In what might prove a new public scandal involving Tim Walz, several cars in the rear of a motorcade transporting the Democrat vice presidential nominee have been involved in a crash while en route from the airport to a campaign event in Milwaukee.

Despite the incident, Walz was not injured, The Washington Times reports.

Shortly after the accident on Monday, President Joe Biden contacted Walz.

At the time, Biden was on his way to another campaign event in Pittsburgh with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Harris’ campaign disclosed that she also communicated with Walz via telephone following the accident to ensure he was safe.

The collision implicated vehicles at the back of the procession.

Walz, who concurrently serves as the governor of Minnesota, was situated towards the front of the motorcade.

The exact cause of the crash, which happened just before 1 p.m. local time and resulted in minor injuries, was not immediately determined.

The White House reported that Harris was updated about the accident and had a conversation with Walz to inquire about his and his team’s well-being.

A pool report from a journalist in Walz’s motorcade noted that a member of the traveling media staff, traveling in a van with reporters, sustained injuries and received medical attention on site.

The reporter described the scene, stating passengers were “violently thrown forward, as our van slammed into the one in front of us and was hit from behind.”

The vehicle carrying the journalists remained stationary on the roadside for an extended period following the incident.

Several reporters experienced minor injuries such as scrapes and bruises, and one reporter suffered a bloody nose.

Another journalist was concerned about a possible concussion and initially sought to go to urgent care but ultimately joined the rest of the media in a replacement vehicle to proceed to the event.

According to the pool report, all individuals desiring medical evaluation by paramedics were attended to.

The accident took place after Walz and his spouse, Gwen, were welcomed at the airport by Democrat Representative Gwen Moore of Wisconsin.

The three exchanged greetings, engaged in brief conversation, and posed for a photograph before setting off to the event.

Monday’s campaign engagements, coinciding with Labor Day, marked Walz’s initial use of the Harris-Walz campaign charter aircraft, adorned with American flag decals and the slogan “A New Way Forward.”
