(DCWatchdog.com) – Democrat Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has revealed how stunned she was when she learned about the recent attack on her husband, multimillionaire Paul Pelosi, in their home in Los Angeles.

In the early morning of October 28, David DePape, a 42-year-old illegal immigrant from Canada with mental health problems, broke into the Pelosis’ home to abduct Nancy Pelosi and force her to answer his questions.

The House Speaker was in Washington, DC, at the time, but DePape, armed with a hammer, ended up skirmishing with her husband, fracturing his skull. According to a police report, the struggle occurred after the officers arrived as the 82-year-old multimillionaire had managed to call 911.

Nancy Pelosi, also 82, revealed in a CNN interview how she first learned about the break-in and the assault on her husband, making it clear she was stunned that Paul Pelosi ended up as the violent attack’s victim.

The House Speaker said her doorbell rang very early in the morning on October 28, after she had arrived in Washington DC from San Francisco the night before.

“I look up, I see it’s 5 [a.m. ET], they must be at the wrong apartment,” she told CNN anchor Anderson Cooper.

After the doorbell rang twice and she didn’t answer, the House Speaker heard “bang, bang, bang, bang, bang on the door.”

“So I run to the door, and I’m very scared. I see the Capitol Police, and they say, ‘We have to come in to talk to you,’” Pelosi explained.

She made it clear she immediately thought about whether something might have happened to her children or grandchildren.

“And I’m thinking my children, my grandchildren. I never thought it would be Paul because, you know, I knew he wouldn’t be out and about, shall we say,” Pelosi revealed.

“And so they came in. At that time, we didn’t even know where he was,” she added.

“For me, this is really the hard part because Paul was not the target, and he’s the one who is paying the price. He was not looking for Paul, he was looking for me… I’ve been close to tears a number of times in this conversation,” Nancy Pelosi said later in the interview.

She did not reveal whether she planned to retire from the US Congress after Tuesday’s midterm election but clarified that “what happened” with her husband would affect her decision to step down.

Paul Pelosi’s attacker David DePape has been hit with multiple charges that could land him life in prison.
