(DCWatchdog.com) – Republican US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has moved to defund the office of Justice Department Special Counsel Jack Smith over his probes of former President Donald Trump.

Smith is in charge of both DOJ investigations against Trump – for alleged mishandling of classified government documents and for suspected attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.
Greene’s move comes after Trump was indicted on 37 charges in the investigation of the documents by a Florida grand jury at Smith’s behest.
“I’m writing an appropriations rider to DEFUND Special Counsel Jack Smith’s office and entire investigation,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-GA) tweeted.
“I will not vote for ANY appropriations bill to fund the weaponization of government. I hope every one of my Republican colleagues will join me,” she added.
MTG’s tweet featured a video of her House floor call for defunding Jack Smith’s office.
“This is a weaponized government attempt to take down the top political enemy and leading presidential candidate of the United States, Donald J. Trump,” she declared, as cited by Mediate and Newsmax.
“We cannot allow the government to be weaponized for political purposes. I’d also like to ask all of my colleagues to join me in this effort. We have to use the power of appropriations to stop the weaponization of government, especially in light that we know that there are others who are guilty of true crimes,” the Georgia Republican elaborated.
Last Thursday, Smith charged Trump with 37 counts of “conspiring to obstruct justice” and “willful retention of national defense information” under the Espionage Act.
The indictment marked the first time a president was charged with breaking the anti-spying law, Breitbart News points out in a report.
Trump was charged the same day when House Oversight Committee Republicans received access to the FBI informant document implicating President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden in a massive bribery scheme.
According to the GOP members, the FBI source claimed pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevky paid them $5 million each while Joe Biden was the US vice president.
More and more voices on the right are calling for the House Republicans to impeach Biden in the wake of Trump’s DOJ indictment, Breitbart notes.
