(DCWatchdog.com) – Former Republican US Rep. Liz Cheney attacked American voters and declared the biggest problem in today’s American politics is “we’re electing idiots.”

Cheney was unseated in last year’s midterms as the sole US House of Representatives member for Wyoming, losing in a landslide to a favorite of former President Donald Trump.
The daughter of former US Vice President Dick Cheney lost popularity with GOP voters due to her long-standing vocal criticism of Trump.
She was also one of the two Republicans to serve on the select committee, alongside seven Democrats, appointed by former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to investigate the January 6 events at the US Capitol.
Because of that, she was branded a RINO (“Republican in Name Only”) by former President Trump.
“What we’ve done in our politics is create a situation where we’re electing idiots,” Cheney said at a forum held at New York City’s Center for Culture and Arts, as cited by The Messenger.
Her quip was met with applause and laughter by the audience.
During the conversation moderated by billionaire David Rubenstein, Cheney said the country needed “serious” people to be elected.
“I don’t look at it through the lens of, is this what I should do or what I shouldn’t do. I look at it through the lens of ‘How do we elect serious people?’ And I think electing serious people can’t be partisan,” Cheney argued.
She hinted that she would abstain from running for the 2024 presidential nomination of the Republican Party since adding another candidate to the race might help Trump.
The former president has been the frontrunner with a massive lead in the polls over the second, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
“I am not going to do anything that would help Donald Trump,” Cheney said.
“Because of the situation that we’re in where we have a major-party candidate who’s trying to unravel our democracy… We have to think about, ‘Alright, what kinds of alliances are necessary to defeat him?’ And those are the alliances we’ve got to build across party lines,” she elaborated regarding Trump’s presidential candidacy.
