(DCWatchdog.com) – The Joe Rogan podcast’s three-hour interview with Donald Trump over the weekend has become an unexpected platform for the former president to address his controversial decision on opening some but not all of the JFK files.

Trump cited national security and privacy concerns, weighed against the public’s desire for transparency.

During his presidency, Trump released over 2,800 documents related to the assassination but withheld some, citing advice from “well-meaning” individuals including Mike Pompeo.

Trump explained that people requested certain information to remain classified due to concerns over personal privacy and national security.

The conversation on the podcast zeroed in on Trump’s future intentions with these files. Trump promised that if he were to regain office, he would declassify the remaining documents.

He used the term “cleansing” to describe this potential action, reinforcing his commitment to transparency while balancing the complex demands of national security.

Rogan challenged Trump directly, asking why he didn’t release all of the files during his first term. Trump’s response indicated that it wasn’t for lack of trying.

“I opened them up partially. I was met with — from good people,” Trump said, acknowledging the advice from figures like Pompeo to postpone a complete release.

“I mean, you know, look at me, good people, people that were well-meaning, Mike Pompeo was one of them, he’s a good person. Uh, they called me they said ‘Sir, would rather, have you not.’ After — and I did open them, but I was asked by some people not to open them,” Trump told Rogan.

Besides the JFK files, Trump hinted at another sensitive document concerning Martin Luther King Jr., though few details were provided.

Trump’s partial declassification of the JFK documents in 2017 was a significant step, yet it wasn’t without its criticisms.

Following Trump’s exit from office, President Biden also released additional documents in 2021 and 2022, yet critics argued his administration failed to achieve full transparency.

Continuing down this path, the National Archives released more documents regarding JFK’s assassination in June 2023.

Yet, the public remains curious about the full story behind one of America’s most enduring mysteries.

Trump’s commitment to revisiting this issue brings hope to many, illustrating his determination to settle the score for the American people, but only when the time is right.

“Addresses, people that are still living, there are people that are affected, um and there could be some national security reason that for you know that I don’t have to necessarily know about, but some very good talented people asked me not to do it,” Trump explained.

“I opened it up and then they said would it be possible for us to do that a different day?” he concluded.
