(DCWatchdog.com) – In a disturbing breach of our nation’s security, three U.S. Army soldiers from Fort Cavazos have been detained on scandalous human smuggling charges involving illegal aliens.

This plot, involving the illegal transportation of foreign nationals across the southern border, highlights ongoing vulnerabilities within military ranks.

Three Army soldiers, Emilio Mendoza Lopez, Angel Palma, and Enrique Jauregui, were involved in this conspiracy as acknowledged by the Department of Justice.

Each individual played a role in transporting illegal aliens from Mexico and Guatemala into the United States.

The method used was startlingly simple yet incredibly concerning.

Jauregui, the alleged recruiter and facilitator, orchestrated this breach.

On November 27, Angel Palma drove a vehicle carrying two Guatemalan nationals through Presidio, Texas, a known border crossing point about 500 miles from Dallas.

While involved in illegal activity, they even dared to injure a federal agent during a failed attempt to flee.

Authorities arrested Emilio Mendoza Lopez at the scene.

On the other hand, Palma, the vehicle driver, was later found and detained in Odessa following his escape.

Data from Palma’s phone suggested intricate coordination between the trio, further deepening the accusations against the soldiers.

“Three U.S. Army soldiers at Fort Cavazos, Texas, have been arrested on human smuggling charges,” announced U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza, cited by The Daily News.

Mendoza Lopez appeared in court on December 2, facing charges related to alien harboring. Palma and Jauregui face additional charges, including assault.

Jauregui’s lawyer, however, remains optimistic: “Once I get discovery and have a chance to assess the case we’ll develop a plan of attack,” says Shane Chriesman.

The case is under scrutiny by Homeland Security Investigation, the U.S. Border Patrol, and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division. These developments once again cast Fort Cavazos in a negative light. Formerly known as Fort Hood, this base has a controversial history, having been spotlighted after the tragic murder of Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen.

The soldiers belong to the 3rd Cavalry Regiment and their betrayal of military and national trust results in severe consequences.

While all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty, we must question how such a failure in integrity could happen at one of the nation’s pivotal military installations.

It lays bare the vulnerabilities of our military’s oversight regarding the infiltration of illegal activities within its ranks.
