(DCWatchdog.com) – In a development spelling trouble for the left with less than a month to go before Election Day, the Democrats’ concern over Kamala Harris’s electability is reaching a boiling point.
Once considered the natural successor to President Joe Biden, Harris is now grappling with low approval ratings and intense scrutiny from both sides of the aisle, reports indicate.
As Vice President Kamala Harris steps up her efforts to bolster President Joe Biden’s campaign following his poor debate showing, Democrats are increasingly anxious about her ability to sway voters.
Harris admits Biden’s performance was subpar but insists that one debate won’t decide the election.
Nevertheless, doubts remain about whether she can fill Biden’s shoes if he doesn’t make the journey himself.
Democrats see Harris as a potential successor, yet her low approval ratings make some within the party uneasy about her role on the ticket.
Republicans capitalize on these doubts, suggesting she is merely biding her time to take over should Biden not complete a second term.
Despite this, Harris continues to be a pivotal defender of Biden’s campaign, offering reassurances to jittery donors and voters.
Democrat strategist Jamal Simmons highlights the unprecedented nature of the current political landscape, emphasizing the difficulties in predicting voter sentiment.
“Everything is deadlocked and the composition of the electorate is unknowable, and there are so many things that are unprecedented,” Simmons explained, capturing the anxiety among Democrats as they confront voter uncertainty.
“So it’s just hard to know. If you’re not nervous, you’re not paying attention,” Simmons, a Democrat strategist who served as Harris’s communications director until last year, told The Hill.
Harris champions key issues like reproductive rights and demographic outreach, yet her campaign has faced hurdles, notably after a controversial interview on “The View.”
Despite increased visibility since the debate, Harris’s messaging has struggled under the weight of heightened expectations and unresolved party tensions.
The Democrats now find themselves in a race against time with neither a straightforward path to replace Biden nor a surefire boost to Harris’s appeal.
An insider like Anthony Coley acknowledges Harris’s status as an underdog in swing states.
“Now that the sugar high is gone people have realized what Kamala Harris has said from the start, which is that she is the underdog,” he stated, pointing to her lagging numbers.
“This is going to be a fight. … These numbers are just so stubborn,” he added, cited by Breitbart News.
The emphasis on campaign finance access and foreign policy experience also raises questions about whether these assets are enough to salvage her campaign.
