(DCWatchdog.com) – According to reports, former President Donald Trump is trying to get back his former campaign manager and senior advisor Kellyanne Conway.
In 2016, with Trump’s election to the White House, Kellyanne Conway became the first woman to have successfully run a presidential campaign.
She served as his Senior Counselor for the first 2.5 years of Trump’s presidency. Conway has been a contributor to the conservative TV network Fox News over the past 1.5 years.
The 45th president of the United States has been “quietly speaking to” Kellyanne Conway to return to his team, according to sources cited by Page Six.
The report notes that it remains unclear whether she might be open to heeding his request.
“He credits her with helping him win the last time,” a source said, referring to the 2016 election.
“He always appreciated so much and understood the value she brought to 2016. Without her, it wouldn’t have happened,” commented another source.
The report about Trump trying to get Kellyanne Conway back comes after it became clear that she is divorcing her husband, lawyer George Conway, after 22 years of marriage.
George Conway, with whom the former Trump adviser has four children, has been a fierce Trump critic since 2018.
He has participated in the Lincoln Project, a group of anti-Trump Republicans formed in 2019 to prevent Trump’s reelection in 2020.
According to one of the insiders quoted by Page Six, the former president might be seeking to prevent Kellyanne Conway from working for some of his potential rivals, most notably, Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis.
Before joining and running the 2016 presidential campaign of Donald Trump, Kellyanne Conway led a political action committee supporting Texas US Senator Ted Cruz. At the time, Cruz was the second most popular GOP nomination candidate after Trump.
“She was a formidable opponent [with Cruz], and [Trump] might want to lock her up and make sure she doesn’t go to DeSantis,” the insider stated.
“Kellyanne has an excellent relationship with President Trump and his team… but she would be crazy to commit to a single opportunity right now. She is busier than ever with a lengthy roster of political, corporate, and media clients, not to mention offers from 2024 players and a big Fox News contract,” the source elaborated.
The report also noted that, according to the sources, Kellyanne Conway’s contract with Fox News is good till the end of 2023 and “could expand in the months ahead.”
“Now that she’s divorced from Trump hater George Conway, Trump feels she has less baggage,” one of the sources said.
“She never crossed an uncrossable line in her book and TV appearances,” the source added, referring to the former Trump adviser’s book “Here’s the Deal,” published last year.
