(DCWatchdog.com) – The frontrunner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, Donald Trump, is doing even better in the polls when compared to his archrival and leftist incumbent, Joe Biden, according to the latest public opinion surveys.
A poll from Harvard CAPS/Harris released on Monday showed Trump ahead of Biden by 46% to 41% in a potential 2024 head-to-head matchup that would be a repeat of the 2020 election.
This is an increase from last month’s poll, where Trump led 44% to 40%, The Daily Caller reports.
When adding Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the mix, who recently became an independent, Trump still leads with 39%, while Biden has 33% and Kennedy takes 19%.
Things get more interesting when Green Party Cornel West is added to the race, the report observes.
In this four-way matchup, Trump’s lead over Biden increases by 2 points. Among independent voters, Trump is consistently the top choice, leading in all three race formats.
Kennedy commented on the poll’s findings, stating that a significant portion of Democrats, Republicans, and independents think the country needs more options than just Trump and Biden.
“I will do everything I can to live up to the public’s positive impression. I’ll do that by conducting a campaign that is courteous and respectful,” RFK Jr. told The Caller.
“We have to change the reflex of labeling our opponents as horrible people. First, because they aren’t horrible people. Second, because it creates artificial divisions, and our times call for the kind of changes that only a unified public can accomplish,” he elaborated.
Another poll by USA Today/Suffolk University had Trump and Biden tied at 41% for a possible 2024 face-off.
However, if Kennedy joins the race, Trump falls behind Biden by 1 point. When West is added, Trump does slightly better against Biden.
A separate poll from Reuters/Ipsos in early October showed that Kennedy could take votes from both Trump and Biden. In a three-way race, Trump had a 2-point lead over Biden.
When looking at averages from RealClearPolitics for potential 2024 primaries, both Trump and Biden lead their parties.
It’s worth noting that Kennedy switched from being a Democrat to an independent in early October. Similarly, once a Green Party candidate, West is now running as an independent.
The Harvard CAPS/Harris poll got its data from 2,116 registered voters. The poll’s results have a margin of error of about 2%.
