President Donald Trump has made history by appointing the first Orthodox Jewish chief judge of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims.
While the left continues to criticize him, the president quietly continues advancing religious diversity in the nation’s judiciary.
By doing so, President Trump shows once again his strong support for the Jewish community and religious liberty.
Matthew H. Solomson’s groundbreaking appointment comes at a critical time when anti-semitism is surging on college campuses and in progressive circles across America.
Unlike Biden-appointed judges who often prioritize progressive ideology over constitutional principles, Solomson exemplifies the type of qualified judges President Trump has consistently elevated to the bench.
His appointment marks another promise kept by the president to encourage religious liberty and appoint judges who respect American legal traditions.
As the son of a U.S. Army colonel and grandson of immigrants, Solomson’s rise to becoming a federal chief judge hit a milestone.
While serving as chief judge, Solomson continues to attend kollel at Yeshiva University’s Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, highlighting his commitment to Orthodox Jewish traditions.
“Of course, this appointment is a result of his legal acumen and record of excellence,” said Orthodox Union Advocacy executive director Nathan Diament.
“But for Orthodox Jews across the country—especially young attorneys—it’s a powerful reminder that one can be deeply committed to Torah and reach the highest levels of public service,” he added.
President Trump’s selection of Solomson stands in stark contrast to the increasing anti-Israel rhetoric from the radical left wing of the Democrat party.
Beyond his judicial responsibilities, Solomson serves as a dean at the Tikvah Legal Fellowship, helping Jewish lawyers integrate Jewish and American ideals.
Tevi Troy, former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush, praised Solomson’s expertise.
He noted, “He literally wrote the book” on federal claims court practice. Troy also highlighted Solomson’s moral clarity, particularly his stance against the rising tide of anti-semitism on American college campuses.
Upon his appointment, Solomson expressed gratitude to Hashem and his wife, reflecting on the nature of true freedom during Pesach.
This appointment not only represents a milestone for the Orthodox Jewish community but also affirms President Trump’s knack for recognizing and advancing individuals whose values resonate with the core of the American judiciary system.
