(DCWatchdog.com) – In a major announcement, Donald Trump, the presumed Republican nominee for the 2024 presidential election, declared his intention to hold his first campaign rally in New York, a Democrat stronghold, since the 2016 election.
As President Joe Biden faces dwindling support in both swing states and traditionally Democratic areas, Trump aims to energize his base, The Daily Caller notes in a report.
The rally is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 23 at Crotona Park in the South Bronx, a press release indicated.
This event follows a rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, where he attracted an impressive turnout of approximately 80,000 to 100,000 attendees in another historically Democratic state.
“President Donald J. Trump, 45th President of the United States of America, will visit the Bronx, New York on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 6:00 PM EDT to highlight the horrendous effects Crooked Joe Biden’s disastrous presidency has had on our economy,” the Trump campaign said.
It continued to criticize Biden’s economic policies, attributing a significant increase in the cost of living in New York to these policies, with average expenditures for New Yorkers on transportation, energy, food, and shelter soaring since January 2021, a phenomenon referred to as “Bidenflation.”
Trump’s statement also criticized what he described as “Biden’s and Democrats’ pro-criminal policies,” holding them responsible for the “incomprehensible and devastating” rise in violent crime in New York City since 2019.
He pledged to alleviate economic hardship, restore law and order, reverse inflation, and halt the flow of illegal migrants into the U.S. if he is re-elected.
In a display of local support, dozens of South Bronx residents marched with a banner proclaiming “The South Bronx For Donald Trump,” with one individual notably waving an American flag.
Signs like “Black Lives MAGA” and “Black Patriots For Trump Rally” were also visible at this demonstration.
Earlier, Trump had conducted a campaign rally in Albany, New York on April 11, 2016, at the Times Union Center.
Recent trends suggest growing support for Trump across pivotal battleground states, with former Biden supporters in states such as Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania citing inflation, foreign policy, and illegal immigration as pivotal issues influencing their reconsideration of their vote in the upcoming election.
Inflation, which was at 1.4% when Biden assumed office in January 2021, escalated to a peak of 9.1% by June 2022.
During Biden’s term, significant international incidents have occurred, including the escalation of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in February 2022 and a terrorist attack by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023.
