(DCWatchdog.com) – Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, admired worldwide for refusing to flee when Putin’s Russia invaded his country in February, has been attacked as an “ungrateful welfare queen” by Donald Trump Jr.
Zelenskyy visited Washington, DC, on Wednesday in his first-ever foreign trip since Russia started a war against his nation ten months ago.
Before heading to the US, the Ukrainian leader emphasized how much his country was grateful to the United States for the massive military and financial aid so far. However, he asked for more American assistance to rescue Ukraine as Putin’s Russia keeps attacking along an 800-mile front line.
Ukraine’s fierce resistance to the Russians has surprised the world, and it was primarily made possible by the US government’s almost $50 billion in aid.
As of Thursday morning, after 300 days of fighting, Ukraine’s defenders have killed 100,400 Russian troops and have destroyed 20,000 Russian military equipment units, according to Kyiv.
“[Ukraine is] grateful for [America’s] support, but it is not enough. It is a hint — it is not enough,” Zelenskyy said before leaving for the US, as cited by Newsmax.
His appeal for more aid to stop the imperialist invasion of Putin’s Russia was met with criticism by some Republicans.
“Zelenskyy is basically an ungrateful international welfare queen,” former President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., wrote on Twitter.
Other Republicans insisted on stricter oversight of the aid the US government had been allocating to Ukraine.
“Of course the shadow president has to come to Congress and explain why he needs billions of American’s taxpayer dollars for the 51st state, Ukraine. This is absurd. Put America First!!!” wrote on Twitter Georgia US Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
“No more blank checks to Ukraine,” tweeted, in turn, US Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona.
Just ahead of Zelenskyy’s arrival, the US government announced its most extensive Ukraine military aid package to date, worth $1.85 billion.
For the first time, it will provide the Ukrainian defenders with a Patriot missile battery. The package also features precision-guided munitions for Ukraine’s fighter jets and other advanced weaponry and ammunition.
The US Congress is planning to vote on a new spending package, which would allocate an additional $45 billion in emergency aid to Ukraine, a sum greater than the $37 billion requested by President Joe Biden.
Even though Ukraine has been on the offensive since July, and has liberated half of the territories conquered by Russia in the spring, Moscow’s leader Putin shows no signs of giving up and keeps pounding Ukrainian cities and civilians.
Analysts believe Ukraine was intended as only the first stop on Putin’s crusade to resurrect the Soviet empire, dominate Europe and Eurasia, and threaten the entire Western world.
