(DCWatchdog.com) – In an incredible demonstration of bravery, former President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally at the Butler Farm Show grounds in Pennsylvania, the same location where he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on July 13.
The new rally will be held on October 5, according to his campaign’s announcement, cited by The New York Post.
Trump, aged 78, had previously hinted at returning to the venue following the life-threatening incident. The exact date of the rally was first reported by NBC News.
“During his visit, President Trump will honor the memory of Corey Comperatore, who heroically sacrificed his life to shield his wife and daughters from the bullets on that terrible day,” stated the campaign.
“President Trump will also recognize the two other Americans who were wounded by the shooter, David Dutch and James Copenhaver. He will express his deep gratitude to law enforcement and first responders, and thank the entire community for their outpouring of love and support in the wake of the attack,” it elaborated.
On that day, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks targeted Trump, firing eight shots from less than 150 yards away, hitting Trump in the right ear as he turned to look at an immigration chart. Crooks was fatally shot by a counter-sniper moments after.
Following this close call, Trump and his campaign have maintained that his survival was a divine intervention meant to enable him to return to the presidency, a sentiment echoed in a statement on Wednesday declaring that the former president was “saved in what the world has recognized as an act of divine providence.”
Shortly after the attack, Trump paid homage to firefighter Comperatore, 50, by kissing his helmet and protective gear during his acceptance of the Republican nomination in Milwaukee.
The assassination attempt has led to extensive investigations into security lapses prior to the event, culminating in the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle.
A Senate report released Wednesday indicated that a lead advance agent failed to communicate credible intelligence about a threat against Trump.
Two months later, Trump faced another threat at his West Palm Beach golf course from Ryan Wesley Routh, who was armed with a sniper rifle and was neutralized by a Secret Service agent after nearly 12 hours of surveillance.
“After not one, but two attempts on his life in the past nine weeks, President Trump is more determined than ever to see his mission through to the end. In that Butler field on July 13th, he took a bullet for democracy—and on November 5th, he is going to save our democracy,” the campaign emphasized.
