(DCWatchdog.com) – GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump received big swing state news, as a recent poll from the Institute for Global Affairs showed voters in six key swing states believe he would be more effective in advancing U.S. interests worldwide.
Such interests included ending the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and handling a potential Chinese attack on Taiwan.
Axios reported that this could boost his chances against Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in these battleground states, where “independents tend to prefer a less interventionist foreign policy.”
According to Mark Hannah, a senior fellow at the institute, “Independents tend to prefer a less interventionist foreign policy.”
“We’ve seen that independents in battleground states tend to prefer a less interventionist foreign policy, so the fact that voters see Trump as more likely to end the wars in Ukraine and Gaza might strengthen his popularity,” Hannah said.
Meanwhile, the poll surveyed 1,865 voting-age adults, including 1,000 in the swing states of Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, from August 15 to 22. The margin of error is plus or minus 3.9%.
Nationwide, voters viewed Harris as slightly better at defending U.S. interests, 52% to 48%, but Trump held an edge in the swing states, 56% to 44%.
On who is more likely to end the wars in Gaza and Ukraine, Trump led in the swing states by 58% to 42%. He held the same margin on questions related to China and Taiwan.
Trump also led Harris in the swing states on immigration policy, 56% to 44%.
Nationally, Harris had a slight lead over Trump when voters were asked who would respond more effectively to a major global crisis, 52% to 48%, or improve America’s reputation, 53% to 47%.
However, her advantage was overshadowed by Trump’s strong leads in the swing states.
