Trump Blasts His Former Defense Secretary

Mark Esper and Donald Trump

(DCWatchdog.com) – Former President Donald Trump came out swinging today at former Defense Secretary Mar Esper over statements Esper made about Trump in his just-released book and during an appearance last night on the CBS News program, 60 Minutes.

As The Hill publication recounts about Esper, “Early excerpts from former Defense Secretary Mark Esper’s new book about his time in the Trump administration, due out this week, accuses the former president of wanting to shoot racial justice protesters in the legs and fire missiles into Mexico to crush cartels.”

Responding to inquiries from 60 Minutes about Esper’s allegations, Trump said in part about Esper:

  • “Mark Esper was weak and totally ineffective and because of it, I had to run the military.”
  • “Mark Esper was a stiff who was desperate not to lose his job. He would do anything I wanted, that’s why I called him ‘Yesper.’ He was a lightweight and figurehead, and I realized it very early on.”

You can see Trump’s complete written response to questions from 60 Minutes in the tweet further down this post.

According to The Hill, Trump fired Esper in November of 2020, just after the presidential election, over disagreements with Trump concerning police brutality and the response to protests over racial inequality in the United States.
