(DCWatchdog.com) – In a new bout of the pro-left judicial onslaught against Donald Trump’s allies, Steve Bannon, a pivotal figure in the MAGA movement, finds himself facing serious accusations in a New York courtroom.
Bannon will tackle charges of money laundering and fraud linked to “We Build the Wall” initiative.
Steve Bannon’s trial for state charges of money laundering, conspiracy, and fraud is now slated for February 25 in New York.
The accusations stem from his involvement with the “We Build the Wall” organization, which allegedly misused funds intended for a U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Bannon argues these charges are politically driven, maintaining his innocent plea, Reuters reports.
The trial, originally set for December 9, was postponed to accommodate additional evidence.
This extension allows for more financial documentation concerning the alleged misuse of funds.
The case is pivotal as Bannon, previously indicted on federal charges but pardoned by former President Trump, now faces state-level accusations.
Presidential pardons do not protect against state charges.
Bannon recently completed a four-month federal prison term for defying a congressional subpoena in connection to the January 6 Capitol events investigation.
Despite the pressures, Bannon described his time in prison as empowering, stating it did not break him.
This resilience is crucial as he braces for this upcoming trial.
The judge in this case allowed evidence indicating over $600,000 from the charity covered the credit card debt of another nonprofit linked to Bannon.
Prosecutors allege Bannon used some funds for personal enrichment, compounding his legal challenges.
As the trial draws near, the decision about whether juror identities will remain confidential has yet to be finalized.
Bannon isn’t the only one snagged by the legal net. Three other members of “We Build the Wall,” including founder Brian Kolfage, have convictions tied to the organization’s misdeeds.
With Bannon claiming political targeting by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the trial’s outcome may have significant implications, not just for him but for the larger narrative surrounding political motivations in legal actions.
