(DCWatchdog.com) – Momentum is building among Republican US lawmakers to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas amid “chaotic and record-breaking illegal immigration,” a report reveals.

Several GOP members of the Judiciary Committee of the US House of Representatives have declared their support for launching impeachment proceedings against Mayorkas, Breitbart News reports.
The House Judiciary Committee is in charge of conducting impeachments. The calls for Mayorkas’ removal come after last week saw the expiration of Title 42, the Trump-era policy allowing swift expulsion of illegal immigrants on public health grounds.
Over 6 million illegal migrants have entered the US on President Joe Biden’s watch, including nearly 2 million gotaways. At least 2.7 million were expelled quickly under Title 42 before it ended on May 11.
“[Mayorkas] should be impeached as soon as humanly possible,” Republican US Rep. Chip Roy of Texas told reporters on Tuesday.
“I support beginning impeachment hearings. I’ve said that to [committee] chairman [Jim] Jordan. My constituents think it’s long overdue, and I feel as though once we lay out the facts for the American people and for my colleagues in the House, it’ll be inevitable,” declared Rep. Ben Cline (R-VA).
“Mayorkas has done more to help the cartels and child traffickers than he has to help the American people. It is clear he is intentionally violating the law, and he must be impeached,” stated Rep. Barry Moore (R-AL).
The two days before Title 42 expired saw daily record-breaking apprehensions of over 10,000 illegal immigrants. The Homeland Security Department previously forecasted that the daily influx could more than double – from 6,000 to 13,000 – after repealing the Trump-era policy.
“I am focused on the work in front of us. … I will continue to focus on [DHS’s] work throughout my tenure,” Mayorkas told CNN over the weekend, rejecting the GOP calls for his impeachment.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) already introduced articles of impeachment against Biden’s homeland security secretary in February and is now “full steam ahead” in rallying support for them, according to his spokesman.
The report quotes a source saying House Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan also thinks Mayorkas deserves impeachment but is working with the Homeland Security Committee to figure out the best approach.
It is forecasted that a joint hearing of the two committees before the end of July featuring Mayorkas will also explain how he is “guilty of an impeachable offense.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Mark Green (R-TX), the Homeland Security Committee chairman, is pressing ahead with a “fact-finding mission” on border security failures.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN) said on Friday he favored impeaching Mayorkas “in perhaps the clearest sign yet of conference-wide interest” in the initiative.
“You can’t any longer believe that somebody’s that bad at their job,” commented another Judiciary Committee member, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).
