Supreme Court Takes On States’ Rights – HUGE!

(DCWatchdog.com) – Liberals are in panic mode after the Supreme Court agreed to hear South Carolina’s case to defund Planned Parenthood.

Specifically, the court’s conservative majority could allow states to block taxpayer dollars from supporting abortion providers.

The Kerr v. Edwards case stems from South Carolina’s 2018 decision to exclude Planned Parenthood South Atlantic from its Medicaid program.

Governor Henry McMaster directed the state health department to disqualify abortion clinics from providing family planning services under Medicaid.

“Taxpayer dollars should never fund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood,” Gov. McMaster said in a post on X after the court agreed to hear the case.

Unsurprisingly, South Carolina’s bold move faced opposition from the liberal establishment.

Planned Parenthood and a patient sued the state, claiming the funding cut violated Medicaid Act provisions.

Both a federal district court and a U.S. appeals court then blocked South Carolina’s action.

The Supreme Court’s decision to hear this case comes at a crucial time. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, more than two dozen states have enacted laws to restrict abortion access.

South Carolina itself has banned abortions after six weeks, aligning with the pro-life movement’s goals.

The conservative Christian legal group Alliance Defending Freedom is representing state officials in this battle against the abortion industry.

Lawyer John Bursch argued that states should have the right to decide if entities like Planned Parenthood are qualified for Medicaid funding, emphasizing the importance of state sovereignty.

This bombshell case has received significant support from conservative lawmakers.

A group of 68 Congressional Republicans urged the Supreme Court to hear the case, backing South Carolina’s right to determine Medicaid provider qualifications.

The stakes in this case are high. Planned Parenthood reported a record 392,715 abortions in the latest period and received a staggering $699.3 million in government funding in 2023.

This case could be a turning point in redirecting these funds away from the abortion industry and towards life-affirming healthcare services.
