(DCWatchdog.com) – President Joe Biden has received a new batch of unfavorable rating numbers as two-thirds of independent voters consider him mentally unfit and too old for the job, according to a new poll.
The new public opinion survey by Harvard University and Harris shows that 72% of independents believe the Democrat president is “too old.” Likewise, 64% of independents doubt his mental fitness to serve as head of the US executive branch.
“Is Joe Biden mentally fit to serve as President of the United States, or do you have doubts about his mental fitness for office?” the poll asked respondents.
Besides the nearly two-thirds of independents who answered positively, so did 79% of Republican and 27% of Democrat voters.
A total of 58% of all those polled made it clear they doubted Biden’s mental fitness for the presidency.
The respondents gave similar answers to the other principal question posed in the survey, “Do you think Joe Biden is showing to be too old to be President, or do you think he is showing to be fit to be president?”
Aside from 72% of the independents, 86% of the GOP voters and 38% of the Democrats declared that Biden was too old for the job.
Overall, 63% of all American voters consider his age too advanced for the White House, as the president turned 80 last month.
If he wins a second presidential term, Joe Biden would be 86 by the time he leaves office.
The Harvard – Harris public opinion poll was conducted among 1,851 US voters on December 14-15. The pollster did not provide the margin of error.
Breitbart News reported that several recent surveys had similar results, with fewer than 25% of American voters strongly convinced that Joe Biden is stable, healthy, and mentally fit.
With 58% of Americans thinking the president should take a cognitive test, there have been at least 10 cases since Biden took office in which he seemed “lost in public,” the report noted.
“He also appears to consistently struggle with angry outbursts when peppered with direct questions — especially questions about his family’s international business dealings,” Breitbart commented.
Earlier this year, a reporter asked the Democrat president why voters increasingly doubted his cognitive and mental abilities.
“I have no idea. I don’t believe the polls,” Biden replied.
The report observed he may have sought to hide his mental challenges by pretending to be “energetic” in public appearances.
However, that has had the opposite effect after, in March, he tripped as he was walking up the Air Force One staircase, and in June, he fell with his bike near his summer house in Rehoboth, Delaware.
