Sheriff Indicted – Judge Killed!

Judge gavel, scales of justice, and law books.

(DCWatchdog.com) – In a shocking betrayal of public trust, a former Kentucky sheriff has been indicted for murdering a district judge in cold blood within the confines of the judge’s own chambers.

See the tweet below.

In mid-September, Judge Kevin Mullins, a respected 54-year-old jurist with 15 years on the bench, was gunned down in his own courthouse office in Whitesburg, Kentucky.

Sheriff Shawn “Mickey” Stines, the county’s top law enforcement officer, was responsible for such a horrible act.

A Letcher County grand jury has indicted Stines on one count of murder of a public official, a charge that could carry the death penalty.

The circumstances surrounding the murder are as puzzling as they are disturbing. Stines and Mullins had lunch together with others on the day of the shooting, showing no signs of the violence to come.

Yet, shortly after, security cameras captured the chilling scene of Stines entering Mullins’ chambers and firing multiple shots, leaving the judge dead at the scene.

Adding to the mystery, detectives said Stines allegedly made a cryptic comment about a kidnapping threat after the shooting. He used his own mobile and Mullin’s to make the call.

“They’re trying to kidnap my wife and kid,” he claimed.

Moreover, the lack of a clear motive has left many speculating about what could drive a sheriff to commit such a brazen act of violence.

However, Stines’ defense team has announced they are conducting their own “parallel investigation,” claiming to have more questions than answers. If convicted, Stines could face the death penalty.
