Senate Democrats Want To Make Washington, DC a State

Senate Democrats on Wednesday reintroduced a bill to make Washington, D.C., a state, an effort supported by President Joe Biden,” according to Blaze Media.

The legislation reintroduced today was first drafted and proposed in 2013. It would give citizens of the District of Columbia full authority over local issues and grant them full representation in Congress, the Hill reported

Proponents for D.C. statehood argue that the city’s population of 712,000 residents is larger than small states like Vermont or Wyoming and comparable to others including Deleware and Alaska. They note that D.C. residents pay the highest per-capita federal income taxes in the U.S., that the city receives between 25% and 30% of its budget from the federal government, and that the only representation the district has in Congress is the non-voting Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton. The issue at hand is D.C. residents in support of statehood believe they are being taxed without representation... [emphasis added]

Regardless of the constitutional questions, it is unlikely the bill will pass, even in a 50-50 Senate with Vice President Kamala Harris breaking tie votes. To overcome a filibuster, Democrats supporting the bill will need to win over at least 10 Republicans, who are not inclined to vote to admit two new likely Democratic senators representing D.C. into the chamber, strengthening the Democratic majority.” [emphasis added]

No I do not agree. Our forefathers set it up this way for a reason. The Democrats want two more Democratic Senators. That is the only reason they are for it.

I think they should make DC a state, right after they move the capital to the center of the country and the citizens can have better access to it. Then they can process all their illegal immigrants in the new state of DC.

    NO not ever!

After the Civil War, the Virginia portion of D. C. was given back to Virginia to become Arlington County, although a minor portion thereof remains federal land. As such, people who live in Arlington County (and there are plenty of them!) are fairly represented in the same manner as anyone else. With this as precedent, except for federally owned lands, what remains of D. C. should, therefore, similarly be assimilated into the state of Maryland.
Ernestine: a ringy-dingy to you, but no safe spaces.

  5. No way if they want they can return the land to Maryland and Virginia for representation, but no a State, Never, Never. The lines of where the land came from Maryland and Virginia are known, they can register in the Satie in which their residence is located. Then Federal funds which are now going to D.C. should be going to the two states to care for the CD.C.

No and No again. It is with in its state and that is how it should stay.

I do not feel the Capital of Our Country should become a state!!! It was never meant to be a state!!!!

That’s what is needed, more knuckleheads in congress to pass the printing of more money, give it away to special interests groups, foreign corrupt countries, candidates for campaigning and raise taxes to pay for the social services they determine common people need. It’s the stimulus payment the people pay back to the government that they expect throughout your lifetime. At what point does the marry go round stop? I am guessing when you die.

  9. Gregger says:

No way. This was set up as a Federal District for the use and protection of the Federal government only to do the business of the People. Frankly, I rue the day they got home rule and got their own city government in 1973. A string of corrupt Mayors have followed since, including the current one.

I would say our forefathers were not stupid. They set it up this way for a reason. Hmm.

  11. Ernestine Scott says:

Absolutely not. This is a government area … shared, somewhat neutral/safe area
