(DCWatchdog.com) – Joe Biden’s only serious rival for the 2024 Democrat presidential nomination, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is now calling for an investigation into the FBI informant’s claims that the president and his son Hunter took $10 million in an international bribery scheme.
RFK Jr.’s insistence that the Bidens should come under investigation is a “dramatic” departure from his previous statements that the 2024 nomination contest should focus solely on policy debates.
Republican US lawmakers have managed to expose an FBI informant file alleging that during his time as vice president, Joe Biden and his son were bribed with $5 million each by a now-wanted pro-Russian Ukrainian oligarch, Mykola Zlochevksy.
Zlochevsky owned the now-defunct energy company Burisma, which employed Hunter Biden in 2014 with a $1 million annual salary.
“I think the issues are now coming up are worrying enough that we really need a real investigation of what happened,” Kennedy told Fox News about the Bidens, as cited by Breitbart News.
“I mean, these revelations about the, where you had Burisma, which is, you know, a notoriously corrupt company that paid out, apparently, $10 million to Hunter and his dad. If that’s true, then it is really troubling. So, I think that that needs to be investigated,” he added.
RFK Jr. had made it clear that he wouldn’t attack his rival with the allegation of international bribery and corruption only a week earlier.
“What I’ve tried to do in this campaign is to focus on issues and focus on the values and not focus on ad hominem attacks on people,” Kennedy said at the time in another Fox News interview.
“Isn’t alleged corruption an issue that voters should be concerned about?” he was asked further.
“I think on every side it’s something that people should be concerned about, but it’s not something that I’m making a spear tip to my campaign,” the Biden challenger replied.
His change of course comes after, at the end of last week, US Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) published in full the FBI information record claiming the $10 million bribery scheme.
The report notes Kennedy’s new opinion “now aligns with polling that shows a majority of independents want congressional investigations into the Biden family business prioritized.”
