(DCWatchdog.com) – Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who is challenging President Joe Biden for the 2024 Democrat presidential nomination, appointed former US Rep. Dennis Kucinich as his campaign manager.
A twice-failed Democrat presidential candidate and former mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, Kusinich also served in the US House of Representatives for 16 years.
According to Breitbart News, Kucinich’s appointment will bring a “credible voice of the anti-war movement to the campaign of Robert Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer and an activist against vaccines.
A statement issued by the Kennedy campaign praised 76-year-old former US Rep. Kucinich, known for being an extreme liberal and for his anti-war efforts.
“Mr. Kucinich has long been known as one of the foremost progressive voices in American politics,” it said
“In 1977, he became, at age 31, the mayor of Cleveland and one of the youngest big-city mayors ever. In 1996 he was elected to the House of Representatives, where he served for 16 years,” RFK’s team elaborated.
The statement added that as a congressman, Kucinich “led” the fight against the 2003 Iraq War and the Patriot Act and chaired the progressive caucus.
“He competed in the Democratic Presidential primary in 2004 and 2008. He is the author of several books, including the acclaimed ‘The Division of Light and Power,’” the RFK campaign noted.
In 2004, Kucinich didn’t win a single primary but was the last Democratic nomination bidder to quit the race, after which it went to John Kerry.
In 2008, he was among the first Democrat candidates to drop out after his poor performance in the primaries.
In his last two terms in the House of Representatives, Kucinich grew increasingly critical of then-President Barack Obama.
He even spoke out in favor of impeaching Obama for involving the United States in the 2011 civil war in Libya and the subsequent toppling of its dictator, Muammar Gaddafi.
“Dennis Kucinich has brought invaluable electoral experience to our campaign,” declared RKF Jr. in the same statement.
“He knows how the system works from the inside out, and his deep knowledge of issues and his personal integrity are fully aligned with the core values our campaign is bringing to American politics,” the presidential hopeful added.
The report points out that Kucinich has criticized some Democrat efforts to “demonize or remove then-President Donald Trump.” Thus, in 2017, he declared any talk about using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump was “not good for the country.”
RFK, the nephew of assassinated President John Kennedy and son of assassinated former Attorney General Robert Kennedy, enjoys the support of one-fifth of Democrat voters, according to recent polls.
