(DCWatchdog.com) – After an armed California man was arrested near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home on Wednesday with the intent to kill the Justice, Republican lawmakers have lashed out at Democrats.
Reporting by Fox News reveals police said they made the arrest as the man walked to Kavanaugh’s home with a gun and a knife with the intent to kill him.
In response to the arrest, GOP lawmakers criticized Democrats’ recent remarks regarding the Supreme Court while demanding House Democrats act on a bill to provide security details to Justices.
The Fox News report details a statement by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy in which he states: “After the White House said President Biden ‘encouraged’ protestors to target the private homes of Supreme Court justices, Speaker Pelosi praised their ‘righteous anger’ ad Leader Schumer even threatened that Justice Kavanaugh would ‘pay the price’ House Democrats promised to pass legislation to protect the justices and their families.”
He highlighted how Democratic lawmakers were dragging their feet, arguing that they made the announcement “nearly a month ago — but no legislation has been passed to date.”
McCarthy also mentioned that the incident was what many had feared would happen to one of the conservative justices on the Supreme Court.
“What has occurred is exactly what many feared: an armed man targeted Justice Brett Kavanaugh at his private residence.” But the California Republican expressed gratitude that the suspect couldn’t follow through with his plan.
“Fortunately, this assassination plot was foiled, but Democrats have sent an unacceptable message that private homes are no longer off-limits.”
Wednesday’s assassination attempt on Kavanaugh comes as the predominantly conservative Supreme Court considers overturning Roe v. Wade, a decision that has drawn the ire of many pro-choice advocates.
