(DCWatchdog.com) – In what may be a harbinger of good things to come for the Republican Party in the current election cycle, last night, a Republican candidate in Texas flipped a seat in a Democrat stronghold.
President Joe Biden carried the same political district by four points less than two years ago.
As valleycentral.com reports:
“Mayra Flores [a Republican] is the unofficial winner as the United States representative for District 34…
“Flores will assume former representative Filemon Vela’s [a Democrat] seat and will be holding the position until January 2023…
“According to Flores’ campaign website, Flores currently serves as the Hidalgo County GOP Hispanic Outreach Chair and has played a critical role in growing and maintaining Republican support across South Texas.”
As Dave Wasserman of the non-partisan Cook Political Report noted in a tweet as he called the race last night, Flores, who defeated Democrat Dan Sanchez, “flipped an 84% Hispanic Rio Grande Valley seat red.” Something almost unheard of in that region.
Political pundits across the country took notice and believe this seat that few would normally pay attention to may very well indicate how deep the trouble is for Democrats this year as all polls show a majority of the country rejecting the policies and actions of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the Democratic Party.

I've seen enough: Mayra Flores (R) defeats Dan Sanchez (D) in the #TX34 special election, flipping an 84% Hispanic Rio Grande Valley seat red.
