(DCWatchdog.com) – More than half of American voters believe Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former White House chief medical adviser, mismanaged the federal government’s handling of COVID-19 and want him investigated, according to a new poll.
Fauci retired at the end of 2022 as the president’s top medical aide and the head of the National Institute on Allergies and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). He held the latter position for 38 years, making him the highest-paid federal government official.
During the coronavirus pandemic, Fauci was a key figure in determining the government’s response.
Republican US lawmakers have also insisted he may be connected to the origins of COVID-19 at China’s Wuhan Institute of Technology because he approved funding with US taxpayer money for gain-of-function research into bat coronaviruses.
According to a public opinion survey by The Trafalgar Group, 52.2% of American voters demand that a congressional investigation probe Fauci’s “inconsistent testimony about his research leading up to the pandemic” and his actions while managing the outbreak.
Another 44.5% disagreed that Fauci should be investigated, as per the poll conducted for Convention of States Action, a conservative grassroots group.
The survey conducted for Convention of States Action (COSA) by The Trafalgar Group, released Monday, found that 52.2% of voters say the congressional investigation should look into Fauci for
“Had the COVID-19 pandemic been well-managed, it would have been prudent for Congress to hold hearings to talk about what we learned and what could be done better in the future,” commented COSA leader Mark Meckler in a statement revealing the results from the survey.
“And yet — despite the fact that the pandemic was horribly mismanaged and that untold millions of Americans continue to pay the price for the COVID-era policies — some that are still in effect — Congress has failed to act,” he added.
In terms of political affiliations, the public opinion poll discovered that 80.2% of Republican voters favor investigating Fauci’s alleged mishandling of the pandemic, while 16.8% of the GOP supporters are against that.
Only 25.5% of Democrat voters support an investigation into the former White House medical adviser, while 70% oppose it.
Independent voters, however, have also shown a majority backing a Fauci probe, with 56% in favor and 42% against.
“This poll offers a strong and clear message to the new Congress — we want you to investigate Fauci and get to the bottom of this before the next pandemic repeats the same gross mistakes,” Meckler commented.
The Trafalgar survey polled 1,079 likely general election voters. It has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
