(DCWatchdog.com) – 27 years after her death, Princess Diana is still making Royal Family news as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been invited to spend Christmas at the childhood home of Diana, Harry’s late mother.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have not been to the U.K. for Christmas since they joined the royal family at Sandringham in 2018.
After stepping back from royal duties and moving to the U.S. in 2020, Harry has stayed in touch with his late mother’s family, especially his uncle, Charles Spencer.
Even though Harry and Meghan have not received an invite to Sandringham this year, insiders said it would not matter much if they did.
“There hasn’t been an invitation extended to Sandringham just yet, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be one forthcoming,” said a source.
It continued, “It would be highly unlikely if there was an invitation extended [to Sandringham] and I don’t think they [the Sussexes] would take them up on it anyway.”
Since leaving royal life, the couple has also been excluded from the royal family’s annual summer trip to Balmoral in Scotland.
Recently, Harry slipped under the radar to attend his uncle Lord Robert Fellowes’ funeral. The event brought both Harry and his brother William together at St. Mary’s Church in Norfolk, though the brothers kept their distance, sitting separately.
Moreover, this was the first time they had been in the same place since King Charles’ coronation in May 2023. During the brief trip, Harry reportedly stayed with his uncle Charles Spencer at Althorp House, where his mother was laid to rest.
Princess Diana, who tragically passed away at age 36 in August 1997, is buried on an island in Round Oval Lake at Althorp, while Harry has kept a strong bond with the Spencer family over the years.
Earlier this year, he met with his uncle Charles and his aunt, Lady Jane Fellowes, during the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games in London.
He was photographed warmly greeting them as they arrived at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Despite this reunion, Harry did not connect with any royal family members during his short visit.
