POLL: Trump Has Huge Advantage

Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis

(DCWatchdog.com) – Former President Donald Trump remains the clear favorite for the 2024 presidential nomination of the Republican Party with a 14-point advantage over his potential top competitor, Florida’s Ron DeSantis, a new poll shows.

According to the Morning Consult and Politico survey results released on Tuesday, Trump is backed by 47% of potential GOP primary voters vs. 33% for DeSantis.

The new Morning Consult/Politico poll was conducted from November 10-14 among 1,983 registered voters nationwide and had a margin of error of three percentage points.

The new poll registered an upward shift in DeSantis’ popularity; before last week’s midterms, it stood at 26%.

Trump’s support declined slightly, from 48% before the midterm election, based on the Morning Consult/Politico poll conducted from November 2-7, with a 3-point error margin.

The post-midterm survey also found former US Vice President Mike Pence is favored by 5% of potential GOP primary voters, down from 7% before last week’s vote.

2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney was fourth with 2%, and Rep. Liz Cheney and Maryland Governor Larry Hogan each got 1%.

Another public opinion poll carried out after the midterm election by YouGov found that DeSantis was in the lead among 2024 GOP primary voters, with 42% to Trump’s 35%.

Surveys conducted in the months before the midterms gave the former president a giant edge.

In June, a McLaughlin & Associates poll said Trump was leading DeSantis by 44 points (59% to 15%).

In July, a Harvard CAPS-Harris public opinion survey had Trump at 56% and DeSantis at 16%, a 40-point lead.

In September, another Morning Consult poll showed Trump had a 33-point advantage, 52% vs. 19% for Florida’s Governor.

On Tuesday night, former President Donald Trump finally made his long-anticipated “big announcement” as he officially declared that he was running for President of the United States in the 2024 election.

‘Hopefully TODAY will turn out to be one of the most important days in the history of our Country!’ Trump wrote earlier in the day in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis has never even hinted that he would be running for president, nor when he might do so.

In last week’s midterm election, he won a definite victory for a second gubernatorial term, defeating his Democrat opponent, US Rep. Charlie Crist, by almost 20 points.
