(DCWatchdog.com) – Members of the US Congress who don’t support legislation to fight climate change are “stupid,” according to Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat Speaker of the US House of Representatives.
Pelosi’s use of the epithet “stupid” was directed against Republican US lawmakers who oppose the Democrats’ climate change agenda.
In an interview released Wednesday, the 82-year-old California Democrat attacked the GOP on multiple issues.
The Speaker of the House was “belittling [the Republicans] when she could not find better ways of debating,” a Newsmax report said.
Pelosi’s insult for anti-climate change US legislators came amid her nationwide campaigning for Democrat candidates three weeks ahead of the 2022 midterm elections on November 8. Recently, she has been visiting an average of five states per week.
In her interview, Pelosi argued the Republicans “rely on their so-called ‘dark money'” but have still been outraised by the Democrats.
“[The American] public is with us,” the Democrat House Speaker insisted.
She mirrored President Joe Biden’s approach of trying to steer the focus issues of the 2022 midterms towards “abortion rights,” climate change, and the administration’s social safety net packages.
However, recent public opinion surveys show that American voters are increasingly concentrating on the sky-high inflation and the state of the US economy.
Pelosi acknowledged the presence of inflation as a public issue but “summarized it dismissively.”
“Inflation’s an issue, but it’s global. It’s global… Inflation is there, but it’s global and not as bad as it is in some countries,” the California Democrat argued.
“What’s [the Republicans’] plan? They ain’t got nothing. When you bring down unemployment, inflation goes up … so in any case, [President Joe Biden] brought unemployment [down], cut it in half,” Pelosi declared further.
“We’re in great shape. Other people don’t want to believe that,” she insisted.
Recognizing the GOP candidates were focusing their campaigning on inflation, the House Speaker urged other Democrats to do a better job sending out their message.
Pelosi vowed that her party would pass a law to change super PACs’ fundraising and spending rules to crack down on the Republicans’ alleged “dark money.”
“I do think that when we win, we have to pass the bill that reduces the impact of that big, dark money because it just chokes and suffocates the airwaves. And that’s what they’re doing with their lies,” she stated.
“How in the pocket of the fossil fuel industry are they?” Pelosi asked after describing Republican US lawmakers opposing climate change legislation as “stupid.”
