(DCWatchdog.com) – HAPPENING NOW: In the latest development from the United States House of Representatives Select Committee that was hand-picked and empaneled by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to investigate the riot that took place at the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021, the committee is now targeting Republican House members with subpoenas.
Today, the committee issued the subpoenas to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and four other GOP Representatives who refused to appear before the panel voluntarily.
Those other members are Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio, the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Mo Brooks of Alabama.
This is the first time the Select Committee has targeted members of Congress with orders to appear and give testimony under oath before the committee.
In a statement, Committee Chair Bennie Thompson (D-MS) said all four members “have information relevant to our investigation into the attack on January 6th and the events leading up to it.” Thompson suggested that those subpoenaed members should “do their patriotic duty … and cooperate with our investigation.”
