(DCWatchdog.com) – In a new case of bureaucracy and health fears intersecting and eliciting concern among Americans, Fresno’s Raw Farm faces heightened scrutiny over its expanded raw milk recall due to bird flu contamination.

The real question looms whether these fears are justified, or this is an overreach that compromises American freedoms under the guise of safety.

Raw Farm, located in Fresno, California, has broadened its recall of raw milk products after detecting bird flu virus in numerous milk samples.

The recall now spans several weeks of production, specifically targeting whole milk and cream produced between November 9 and November 27.

This decision to halt production was enforced after avian influenza posed significant threats to both livestock and the public.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture responded by quarantining the farm premises and stopping the distribution of all raw milk, cream, kefir, butter, and cheese products made on or after November 27.

Health officials emphasize not consuming any raw milk or cream, underscoring potential health risks from the virus, reports Contagion Live.

Interestingly enough, no human illnesses have resulted from consuming these raw products, suggesting this is more precautionary.

Critics argue the broader implications of this recall, hinting at possible government intrusion.

Notable consumer advocate, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has condemned the situation, denouncing it as “aggressive suppression” of consumer choices.

“California has secured a broad, voluntary recall of all Raw Farm, LLC raw milk and cream products due to possible bird flu contamination,” stated the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), cited by Newsweek.

While there have been 57 cases in the U.S. this year related to the virus, none have been life-threatening or traced back to this recent bout of raw milk contamination.

Concerns for pets have also arisen, as reports have connected consuming this raw milk to cat fatalities due to brain damage.

However, the farm insists that no food safety issues exist within their operations.

The Type A H5N1 bird flu virus first surfaced in U.S. dairy cows this past March, spreading swiftly across California.

Despite this, Raw Farm’s owner, Mark McAfee, criticizes the regulatory measures, framing them as political rather than safety-centric.

“There are no illnesses associated with H5N1 in our products,” McAfee asserts.

As this situation develops, it sheds light on bigger issues between food regulators and choice advocates.

With CDC officials reminding that pasteurized milk remains safe, the debate on raw milk restrictions and public health rages on in California.
