New Poll Stuns Biden; Shocks Democrats

(DCWatchdog.com) – Former President Donald Trump would defeat his successor, Democrat Joe Biden, in a hypothetical matchup between the two, after winning the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, according to the results from a new poll.

The public opinion survey by Emerson College found that in a Trump – Biden matchup, the former would be supported by 46% of American voters, while the latter would be backed by 42%.

According to the poll results released on Tuesday, 7% of the respondents said they would choose a third candidate in a Trump – Biden race, and 5% said they were undecided.

The same survey discovered President Joe Biden would receive 44% support in a potential head-to-head matchup with Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis. DeSantis would be backed by 40% of American voters.

In that scenario, 9% of the respondents said they would vote for a third candidate, while 8% were undecided.

The poll also showed that Biden would prevail in a matchup with Nikki Haley, the former Republican governor of South Carolina and US ambassador.

In a Biden-Haley contest, 12% of the respondents would choose a different candidate, while 11% would remain undecided.

The Emerson College poll’s results showed that 55% of GOP voters would vote for Donald Trump in their state’s primary, while 25% would vote for Florida’s Governor DeSantis.

Only 8% of those polled said they would vote for former US Vice President Mike Pence, while 5% would support Nikki Haley.

None of the other potential Republican candidates for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination got more than 5% support in the survey.

As of March 1, only three bidders have officially entered the race for the Republican Party’s nomination – Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy, an entrepreneur and conservative author and activist.

Other likely candidates are Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, former US Vice President Mike Pence, former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and Republican US Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina.

The Emerson College survey also found that 44% of US voters approve of President Joe Biden’s performance as president, while precisely 50% disapprove of his job performance.

According to the poll results, 71% of Democrats and pro-Democrat voters would like Joe Biden to be nominated by the party to run for a second term, while 29% prefer to see a new face as a nominee.

The Emerson College poll was conducted from February 24-25 among 1,060 voters nationwide. It has a margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
