(DCWatchdog.com) – One of President Joe Biden’s key advisors, Democrat veteran political operative Susan Rice, announced that she is resigning next month, a development following a critical New York Times report of her handling migrant children.
Rice has been serving as Biden’s Domestic Policy Adviser and head of his Domestic Policy Council since his inauguration in January 2021.
“I am deeply grateful to @potus for trusting and empowering me to serve as his Domestic Policy Adviser,” the veteran Democrat operative and diplomat wrote on Twitter.
“I love the team @DPC and in the @WhiteHouse. There are no more dedicated public servants. I am so proud of all we have been able to accomplish together for the American people,” she added.
Susan Rice, 58, was a foreign policy adviser to the presidential campaigns of Democrats Michael Dukakis, John Kerry, and Barack Obama.
In Obama’s first term, she was the US Ambassador to the United Nations; in his second term, she was the US National Security Advisor.
“I surprised a lot of people when I named Amb. Susan Rice as my Domestic Policy Adviser. Susan was synonymous with foreign policy, having previously served as National Security Adviser and UN Ambassador,” Biden said in Monday’s White House statement.
“But what I knew then and what we all know now — after more than two years of her steady leadership of the Domestic Policy Council — it’s clear: There is no one more capable, and more determined to get important things done for the American people than Susan Rice,” the president added.
He pointed out that Rice had become “the only person to serve as both National Security Adviser and Domestic Policy Adviser,” and her “record of public service makes history.”
The recent report by The New York Times said Rice and the White House had ignored warnings that sponsors of illegal immigrant children were violating child labor laws by forcing the children to work, Newsmax emphasized.
It noted further that Susan Rice’s departure from the Biden administration next month would come just when the Title 42 expulsion policy ended, which might spike illegal immigration even more.
According to sources cited by Politico, Susan Rice might be replaced by White House senior adviser Neera Tanden.
Ambassador Richard Grenell, the former acting Director of National Intelligence of the Trump administration, told Newsmax Susan Rice seemed to have been a “puppet master” in the Biden White House, who pulled the strings on domestic policy but also foreign and national security policy.
“NBC has failed to cover the secret hand of Susan Rice for the last few years,” Grenell tweeted, sharing an NBC News’ report of her departure.
“She’s plotted at State and the intel agencies without scrutiny. She leaves the White House with world chaos in her wake,” the former DNI wrote.
The NBC report cited a Biden administration source saying that Rice’s last day on the job would be May 26.
