NEW: Kamala Talks Guns?

KAMALA HARRIS

(DCWatchdog.com) – In one of her very rare interviews since receiving the Democrat presidential nomination, Kamala Harris has been asked about her stance on guns, and, in an answer that will enrage the supporters of Second Amendment rights, she has said she wants to ban what the left calls “assault” firearms.

Harris engaged in a discussion with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) on Tuesday.

Even though her rival, Donald Trump, was grilled in an interview with the NABJ in July, the Democrat candidate was seemingly treated more favorably, The Daily Caller observed in a report.

The interview was conducted by Eugene Daniels from Politico, Tonya Mosley from WHYY, and Gerren Keith Gaynor from TheGrio at an event hosted by the NABJ in Philadelphia.

Notably, Harris has only participated in one primetime interview since the start of her presidential campaign.

Before delving into her campaign’s “joyful” theme, Harris addressed various topics including abortion access, her policies on the Middle East, and issues specific to Springfield, Ohio.

A notably tense moment arose during the discussion on whether she would consider banning handguns.

Mosley initiated the conversation by stating, “You said you support an assault weapons ban and universal background checks and we actually learned during the debate that you are a gun owner. But in Philadelphia, handguns are responsible for most homicides and violent crime.”

Mosley further pressed, “How will you address the issue of the use of handguns because a push for an assault weapons ban only addresses a significant but small part of the problem?”

As the conversation continued, Mosley attempted several times to refocus Harris on the specific issue of handguns.

She declared she didn’t wish to take away Americans’ guns but favor a ban on “assault” weapons.

“I’m asking specifically about handguns, because many of those handguns are purchased in places —” Mosley interjected, only to be countered by Harris emphasizing, “Universal background checks apply to handguns. They do.”

Gaynor then questioned the vice president about the role of joy in her campaign and the negative portrayal by Republicans.

“Oh, sometimes I think, and I’ll say to whoever the young people are who are watching this. There’s some times when your adversaries will try to turn your strength into a weakness. Don’t you let them. Don’t you let them,” Harris responded.
