(DCWatchdog.com) – Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani just filed a defamation lawsuit against President Joe Biden, focusing on two specific statements made by Biden in 2020 that labeled Giuliani as a “Russian pawn.”
This lawsuit, comprising 16 pages, has been filed in a New Hampshire state court, with President Biden, his campaign, and four fundraising committees listed as defendants. According to the lawsuit, these statements were made by Biden on October 22, 2020, during the final presidential debate against former President Donald Trump.
The first statement targeted Giuliani’s alleged connections to Russia and came in response to a question about foreign election interference. In this regard, Biden remarked, “Well, I won’t get — I shouldn’t — well, I will. His buddy, Rudy Giuliani, he is being used as a Russian pawn. He is being fed information that is Russian, that is not true.”
The lawsuit asserts that Biden was aware that his remarks would diminish Giuliani’s credibility and portrayed him falsely as “a liar” to the nation.
Later in the debate, when Trump mentioned the “laptop from hell,” alluding to a story about Hunter Biden’s controversial laptop, Biden responded by saying, “Look, there are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what this, he is accusing me of is a Russian plant. They have said that this is has all the charact … four, five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he is saying is a bunch of garbage. Nobody believes it except his and his good friend Rudy Giuliani.”
The laptop, reportedly found at a Delaware computer repair shop, allegedly contains incriminating information about Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings that could implicate his father during his time as vice president. Giuliani was instrumental in bringing the laptop’s contents to public attention in the run-up to the 2020 election.
During the debate, Biden’s second mention of Giuliani referred to a letter signed by 51 former national intelligence officials, cautioning that the laptop story had the hallmarks of Russian disinformation.
The lawsuit contends that “Defendant Biden knew that the preceding statement about the laptop and asserting that the Plaintiff lied about the content of the laptop were untrue and Defendant Biden knew it to be untrue.” Notably, the letter has subsequently been discredited as a partisan effort aimed at discrediting reporting by the New York Post concerning the laptop.
In a related development, Hunter Biden recently filed a lawsuit against Giuliani, alleging that Giuliani and another defendant had severely violated his digital privacy by disseminating the laptop’s contents.
In the current lawsuit, Giuliani is pursuing unspecified financial damages and seeking public acknowledgment from President Biden that his statements were false. The case against President Biden and his political organizations includes charges of defamation, libel, and false light invasion of privacy, totaling two counts of defamation.
