(DCWatchdog.com) – The former Democrat Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has announced her decision to support Rep. Adam Schiff in his candidacy for the US Senate if US Sen. Dianne Feinstein retires.
Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the senior US senator from California, is 89 years old and has not announced whether she would seek reelection. She has served in the US Senate since 1992.
Rep. Adam Schiff, another California Democrat, has been a member of the US House of Representatives since 2001.
Nancy Pelosi remains a Democrat member of the House in the new US Congress after serving as House Speaker in 2009-2011 and 2019-2023.
Schiff has already announced that he plans to run for Feinstein’s seat in the US Senate if the latter retires. On Thursday, his office published a statement with Nancy Pelosi’s endorsement of his candidacy, Newsmax reported.
“If Senator Feinstein decides to seek reelection, she has my whole-hearted support. If she decides not to run, I will be supporting House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff, who knows well the nexus between a strong Democracy and a strong economy,” Pelosi said.
She declared she endorsed Schiff since he would put “people over politics” and work to improve the economy.
“Ever since I supported Adam in his race for Congress in 2000, I have known his commitment to putting the American Dream in place for everyone,” Pelosi declared.
“Adam has dedicated his life to public service. Every time I have asked Adam to take on the tough fight against extremist forces, he has responded with integrity, strength, and success,” she added.
At the same time, the former Democrat House Speaker emphasized Feinstein’s accomplishments in the US Senate and described her as a “champion” for democracy.
Breitbart News reported that Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s latest filing with the Federal Election Commission showed that she raised only $558.91 in the last three months of 2022.
The same filing also revealed that the California Democrat, who has served in the US Senate for more than 30 years, has less than $10,000 in her campaign account.
This revelation has led to speculation that she may retire rather than run for another six-year term as US Senator.
Feinstein is expected to announce her plans in the next few months. Nevertheless, several Democrats are already vying for her seat.
Besides Rep. Adam Schiff, those include at least more California members of the US House of Representatives: Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) has also announced her candidacy, and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA) also predicted to join the race.
