(DCWatchdog.com) – Creating big trouble for Joe Biden’s reelection prospects, a sizable chunk of Democrats harbor hopes that former First Lady Michelle Obama will challenge him for the party’s 2024 presidential nomination.
A recent poll found that if Michelle Obama were to jump into the Democratic Party’s nomination race, she would defeat Joe Biden with 48% support from Democrat primary voters compared with only 36% for the president.
The Center Square Voters’ Voice Poll survey also established that Biden would have no trouble beating the other official candidates for the Democrat nomination, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson.
“Biden is pretty safe in the Democratic primary. However, he’d better make sure Michelle Obama is on his Christmas card list,” commented Mike Noble, CEO of Noble Predictive Insights, which executed the poll, as cited by The Washington Times.
The report notes that surveys “consistently show” that no fewer than half of Democrat voters would like to see their party’s 2024 nomination go to someone other than Biden. “Michelle Obama’s name keeps surfacing on the wish lists of some Democrats as an alternative to President Biden in 2024,” The Times comments.
“[This] is partly driven by liberal and media fear that investigations of Hunter Biden will turn up more damaging information about the Biden family’s finances before the election,” it elaborates.
The report adds that every new claim the president could be involved in his son’s alleged pay-to-play foreign business schemes helps keep up the Democrats’ dissatisfaction with him.
The conservative news outlet observes that “some anxious Democrats keep returning” to the idea that Michelle Obama should become the party’s 2024 presidential nominee – as the former first lady was also more popular than her husband while they were in the White House.
In a Wall Street Journal op-ed published in May, two Democratic Party operatives, Douglas Schoen and Andrew Stein, described Michelle Obama as the “strongest candidate by far” who could challenge Joe Biden.
“[She] polls well and can replace Kamala without anyone calling it racist. Watch for Democrats to start quietly pushing Michelle Obama more and more as a ‘unifying force’ for the party against Trump,” Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk wrote recently on social media.
