MAKE IT $5,000?

(DCWatchdog.com) – As part of a broader pro-family policy to help Americans in need, GOP vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance pushed for raising the child tax credit to $5,000.

Speaking on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” Vance said he and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump both support expanding the child tax credit and want to make it happen.

“The child tax credit has languished thanks to the Biden administration, because [Kamala] Harris has failed to show fundamental leadership,” Vance told host Margaret Brennan. “Chuck Schumer has been unable to get it through the U.S. Senate, and we want to have a more pro-family policy.”

Currently, the tax credit is $2,000 per child, but Vance wants to increase it to $5,000 and acknowledged that it would require Congressional approval.

He also mentioned that parents should benefit from lower taxes through the child tax credit. He questioned the Harris administration’s response, asking, “Do they want the elimination of the child tax credit? Or were they just being careless in responding to remarks I made three years ago?”

While the existing credit applies to families earning $400,000 or less, the Ohio senator is calling for a “broad-based family policy” and tax credit.

“President Trump has been on the record for a long time supporting a bigger child tax credit, and I think you want it to apply to all American families,” he asserted.

Vance also advocated for expanded access to child care, including credits for family members who stay home to care for children.

“If you’ve got grandparents who are at home taking care of the kids, I think they deserve to be treated the same way as other family models by their government,” he added, noting that his proposal would cover all families, including those with same-sex parents.

Furthermore, Vance discussed immigration policy while stating that a second Trump administration would pursue mass deportation of up to 20 million immigrants through a “sequential approach.”

“I think that if you deport a lot of violent criminals and frankly if you make it harder to hire illegal labor, which undercuts the wages of American workers, I think you go a lot of the way to solving the illegal immigration problem,” he concluded.
