(DCWatchdog.com) – With President Joe Biden set to announce his nominee to the United States Supreme Court within a matter of days, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is ready to back a liberal judge from his home state of South Carolina.
In fact, Graham says that his choice could possibly get 60 votes in the United States Senate, something no recent appointee to the Supreme Court has accomplished in recent years because of how politically divisive the Senate has become.
According to Newsmax:
“Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, believes J. Michelle Childs, a federal judge serving in South Carolina, is eminently qualified to be on the nation’s Highest Court.
“‘I have told [Biden] and his team that if you nominate Michelle Childs, she will be in the liberal camp, for sure, but she has a hell of a story,’ Graham said Sunday on ABC. ‘And she would be somebody, I think, that could bring the Senate together and probably get more than 60 votes.’
“Among the justices on Biden’s short list, Childs is considered the most moderate, and she has been criticized by progressives and labor groups who say her record is not sufficiently supportive of worker rights.”
Will Biden go with the most moderate individual of the four Black women he is considering? Will he go with a sitting judge who “progressives and labor groups” say is not sufficiently supportive of worker rights? Will he go with the individual who could get bipartisan support for the first time in many years from an evenly divided Senate?
The answer will come shortly as the nomination and confirmation process is set to begin moving quickly within a matter of weeks.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, believes J. Michelle Childs, a federal judge serving in South Carolina, is eminently qualified to to replace Justice Steven Breyer, who is retiring from the Supreme Court.
