(DCWatchdog.com) – In an opinion piece published in the Wall Steet Jornal, Karl Rove, a Republican strategist credited with President George W. Bush’s victory over Al Gore in the 2000 Presidential Election, blasted the GOP and said the Republicans are responsible for the violent attack that took place at the United States Capitol a year ago today.
After first laying out detail after detail that Rove believes prove it was Republican supporters of former President Donald Trump who “smashed doors and windows, illegally entered the Capitol, ransacked offices and searched for leaders of Congress, and made dire threats about what would happen if they found them,” Rove posed a question to Republicans, asking what if the tables were turned and it was Democrats who stormed the Capitol after a Republican presidential victory.
He then answered his rhetorical question, stating:
“If Democrats had done what some Trump supporters did on that violent Jan. 6, Republicans would have criticized them mercilessly and been right to do so. Republicans would have torched any high official who encouraged violence or stood mute while it was waged and been right to do so. Republicans would have demanded an investigation to find who was responsible for the violence and been right to do so.” [emphasis added]
Bottom line: Rove blames the GOP for not being honest about what took place on January 6 and warns, “There can be no soft-pedaling what happened and no absolution for those who planned, encouraged and aided the attempt to overthrow our democracy.” [emphasis added]
What do you think? Do you agree or disagree with Rove when he states that Republicans are responsible for the violent attack on the Capitol?
KARL ROVE: “So, on this anniversary, here’s a simple thought experiment: What if the other side had done it? .. Republicans would have torched any high official who encouraged violence or stood mute while it was waged and been right to do so.”@WSJopinionhttps://t.co/UKsjtw0Rcv pic.twitter.com/MS6weHZzzk
