‘It’s Scary Right Now’

(DCWatchdog.com) – Michigan autoworkers are worried about their jobs because Joe Biden pushes for electric vehicles (EVs).

The New York Times reports that workers fear this move will lead to job losses. The United Auto Workers (UAW) union representing some of these workers is unhappy with Biden’s support for EVs.

They say EVs need fewer people to make them. This could cut jobs in manufacturing and other areas like insurance and trucking.

Biden wants half of all new cars sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2030. This goal does not sit well with many in the auto industry, which has a strong union presence. “I was disappointed,” said Tiffanie Simmons, a worker at a Ford factory in Michigan. “We trust you to make sure that Americans are employed.”

The president is now trying to slow down his EV plan. He wants to ease up on some emissions rules that were going to start soon. These rules would have made car makers switch to electric cars faster.

Simmons thinks EVs are bad for workers like her. She feels let down by Biden but won’t vote for Donald Trump, who she calls an “entertainer.” “It’s scary right now with the whole electric push,” said Nelson Westrick, another autoworker. “This electric stuff is going to kill, just kill, thousands and thousands of jobs.”

Trump has been trying to get support from union workers for his 2024 presidential campaign. He chose to talk to workers in Detroit instead of going to a debate. He also made a video asking the UAW to support him. He criticizes Biden’s green policies.

In January, Trump met with leaders and members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He has had success with union voters in the past winning Michigan and Wisconsin in 2016 and almost winning Minnesota.

The White House has not commented on these concerns.
