In a massive step, Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for over 270,000 Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator SUVs, due to a troubling brake line defect.

The issue may lead to brake fluid leaks, raising the risk of catastrophic accidents.

The recall affects 2022 through 2024 model years of the Ford Expedition and 50,474 Lincoln Navigators.

Reports suggest improperly aligned front brake lines as the culprit.

These brake lines dangerously contact the engine air cleaner outlet pipe, causing leaks that increase crash risks.

Leaking brake lines can lead to longer braking times and potential crashes.

For these high-profile SUVs, a solution is essential to prevent further worries among drivers.

Ford is collaborating with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to manage this recall.

Ford promises free inspections and repairs to rectify the hazardous situation.

In February, Ford began investigating these concerns after noticing an uptick in brake system warranty claims, particularly for the 2022 Navigators.

This prompted Ford’s Critical Concern Review Group to delve into the matter.

The investigation revealed a change in radiator hose stowage operations back in November 2024, intended to prevent brake line bending.

“A brake line leak may cause a longer than expected brake pedal travel and result in a reduction in the rate of deceleration,” according to a statement by Ford, cited by USA Today.

While no accidents or injuries have been reported so far, vigilant attention is critical moving forward.

Ford’s plan to notify affected customers by mail, urging them to address this issue at Ford or Lincoln dealerships free of charge, aims to prevent any future incidents.

Customers who have already paid for similar repairs might be eligible for reimbursement.

Ford engaged its assembly plants, investigating the origin of this potentially life-threating issue.

The Kentucky Truck Plant, where many of these vehicles were produced, is under scrutiny for improper routing of the radiator hose during engine installation, which may have bent the brake line.

As drivers, vigilant oversight and proactive measures must hold companies accountable, ensuring our loved ones remain safe on American roads.

Ford aims to inform dealers on May 14, with customer notifications rolling out between May 26 and May 30.

Customers are encouraged to contact Ford’s customer service at (866) 436-7332 for more information on safeguarding their vehicles and ultimately, their lives.
