House GOP to AG Garland: We Demand Answers Now!

Merrick Garland

(DCWatchdog.com) – Dozens of Republican US House members have sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland demanding he answers vital questions about the recent discoveries of classified documents found in President Joe Biden’s possession.

At least three different batches of classified US government records from when Biden was Barack Obama’s vice president (2009-2017) have been discovered in the former’s home in Delaware and a Washington, DC, office he used before entering the White House.

The vice president’s position does not hold the power to declassify government papers. According to CNN, several of the 20-some records contained materials connected with Iran, Ukraine, and the UK.

More than 40 Republican US House of Representatives members have collectively asked Garland for answers on the Biden revelations, reports The Daily Caller, which obtained the letter, as cited by Newsmax.

The top GOP questions for the Attorney General boil down to why the White House and the Department of Justice waited for two months before telling the American public about the discovery of the first Biden stash of classified records.

Biden’s aides found the stash in Washington, DC, on November 2, days before the 2022 midterm elections on November 8.

The Republicans explicitly asked Garland if “the timing of the November 8 midterms have anything to do with the delayed announcement.”

They also questioned whether Biden’s lawyers got “special clearance” to view and handle the papers.

“Classified documents were discovered at the Penn Biden Center on November 2, 2022, only six days before the midterm elections, which decided the balance of power for the 118th Congress,” the Republicans’ letter said.

“This discovery occurred shortly before you appointed special counsel, Jack Smith, to criminally investigate President Trump as part of the Mar-a-Lago raid, a central issue in the midterms for both Congressional Democrats and Joe Biden,” it pointed out.

“Did the White House request to withhold this information prior to the midterm elections?” the letter asked directly.

The GOP lawmakers also demanded that Biden’s AG clarify why the current president isn’t investigated on classified documents possession the same way former President Donald Trump is.

“The fact that President Trump is being criminally investigated for mishandling classified documents, while President Biden is not receiving the same level of scrutiny for his mishandling of classified documents, leads us to believe that the Justice Department’s investigation of President Trump is nothing more than a partisan and politically motivated attack on President Trump,” the letter stated.

Rep. Mark Alford of Missouri spearheaded the GOP letter to Garland.

“The American people deserve to know if prior to the midterm elections the White House covered up the fact that Joe Biden left classified documents at his think tank. That’s why I’ve led a coalition of my colleagues in Congress to demand that Merrick Garland investigate and provide answers immediately,” Alford commented separately.
