This shocking incident raises critical questions about justice and the protection of our brave service members.

U.S. Army soldier Katia Dueñas Aguilar, aged 23, was found dead in her Clarksville, Tennessee, home on May 18, 2024.

Aguilar, who served with honor as part of the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Campbell, became the victim of a horrific stabbing attack.

The Clarksville Police Department swiftly moved into action to uncover the truth, leading to an intense investigation

An autopsy revealed Aguilar had suffered 68 stab wounds, primarily to her neck and upper body, with the cause of death ruled a homicide due to sharp-force injuries.

This violent and vicious attack leaves us questioning the safety and protection afforded to our military members, both abroad and at home.

Two suspects now face charges in connection with Aguilar’s death. Sofia Rodas, 35, faces charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence.

Meanwhile, Aguilar’s husband, Reynaldo Salinas Cruz, 40, is charged with tampering with evidence, casting a shadow over family ties in this tragic case.

Authorities undertook a collaboration with military forces, showing how critical it is to unify efforts in tragic cases involving service members.

Both suspects were apprehended on unrelated federal charges before their extradition to Clarksville.

This partnership between the military and the local police showcases the significance of justice for those who protect our freedom.

“She would…tell me that she’s not happy over there and I wanted her to come back so we could make more memories,” said the victim’s sister, Cecilia Ruiz-Aguilar, cited by CBS News.

Aguilar, originally from Mesquite, Texas, had enlisted in the Army in 2018.

Her tragic death leaves behind a 4-year-old son and a grief-stricken family seeking answers and justice for her untimely demise.

Both Cruz and Rodas await legal representation and, if necessary, will be assigned a public defender.

As this investigation remains active and ongoing, Clarksville Police urge anyone with relevant information or video footage to come forward to Detective Hofinga at (931) 648-0656, ext. 5720.

This case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in prosecuting those guilty of heinous acts against our servicemen and women.
