(DCWatchdog.com) – While he is facing trial for alleged sex crimes, Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently under suicide watch at a Brooklyn jail.
His mental state is reportedly uncertain, which has prompted authorities to monitor him closely.
As per the U.S. Department of Justice National Institute of Correction, suicide watch is described as “supervisory precautions taken for suicidal inmates that require frequent observation.”
It remains unclear how long Combs has been on suicide watch or whether he displays suicidal tendencies.
This step follows his recent arrest on charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, as reported by People.
Combs was arrested at the Park Hyatt New York and is now being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, denied both bail and house detention.
Notorious for harsh conditions, the Metropolitan Detention Center has housed other high-profile detainees, like R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell, and has a reputation for its tough environment.
Combs’ lawyers have raised concerns about the jail’s conditions, citing recent incidents: “Just earlier this summer, an inmate was murdered. At least four inmates have died by suicide there in the past three years.”
The facility is meant for pre-trial detainees and those serving short sentences.
It is currently operating under capacity, holding about 1,700 inmates despite having space for almost 3,000.
In court, Combs pleaded not guilty to charges that accuse him of organizing exploitative sex events called “Freak Offs,” where women were allegedly coerced into sexual acts with male prostitutes while he watched and recorded the activities.
The indictment suggests these events were drug-fueled and often required days to recover from, requiring intensive care such as IV fluids.
Moreover, authorities found a large quantity of lubricants and several firearms during raids on Combs’ properties.
