(DCWatchdog.com) – Happening Now: As the Freedom Convoy USA 2022 fires up the engines of a reported 38,000 truckers and, along with thousands of supporters, heads to Washington DC to protest vaccine and other COVID-19 mandates and restrictions, President Joe Biden’s Pentagon has called up and is deploying the National Guard in and around the nation’s capital.
As the Wall Street Journal notes in “National Guard, Law Enforcement Prepare for Possible Trucker Protests in D.C. Area“:
“Protest organizers are calling for truck convoys to head to the Washington area ahead of President Biden’s State of the Union address next week to protest issues including Covid-19 vaccine mandates, prompting law enforcement officials to prepare for potential disruptions following similar protests in Canada.
“Several groups have said they are planning trucker protests in the Washington area in the coming days, following a protest in Canada organized under the “Freedom Convoy 2022” banner that called for all Covid-19 vaccine mandates and related social restrictions to be lifted. Any protests could also be timed around President Biden’s State of the Union address, which is scheduled for next week on March 1.” [emphasis added]
Additionally, starting yesterday, heavy vehicles were being placed at strategic access and entrance points near the entrance to Capitol Hill as a means of protecting the United States Capitol complex.
